Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 August 2026
This policy explains how mcr.guide handles data when you use the Manchester Guide app and related services.
Data we use
- Local app data such as language preference, saved places, recently viewed places and recent searches. This normally remains on your device unless a feature needs to send part of it to our server.
- Approximate or precise location when you grant permission and use nearby or map features. Coordinates are used to fulfil the request; we do not create a permanent personal location history from them.
- Review content you choose to submit, including display name, star rating, title, review text and language.
- Limited interaction data such as directions, calls, website actions and deal interactions. We use this for aggregated analytics and to improve the guide.
- Random app-generated identifiers used for some deal features. Where practical, the server stores a one-way hash rather than the raw identifier.
Security and abuse prevention
Normal technical information such as IP address and user agent reaches our servers with internet requests. Some anti-abuse and rate-limiting features use one-way fingerprints rather than storing raw IP addresses in review and engagement tables. Our hosting provider may retain ordinary server logs for a limited period for security and operations.
How we use data
- Provide search, maps, nearby results, saved items, reviews and deals.
- Moderate user-generated content and prevent spam, duplicate submissions and abuse.
- Measure content and deal performance and improve the app experience.
- Respond to support requests when you contact us.
Sharing and advertising
We do not sell personal data. The current V1 app does not include a third-party advertising SDK. The app may open third-party websites or apps such as maps or venue websites; those services operate under their own privacy policies.
Retention and control
Local data remains on your device until you clear app data or remove it using available in-app controls. We may retain reviews, moderation records and aggregated analytics as reasonably necessary to operate the service, prevent abuse and meet legal obligations. You can ask to access, correct or delete applicable personal data by contacting support@mcr.guide.
Your rights
Where UK data protection law applies, you may have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction and objection depending on the circumstances. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Children
The service is not designed to knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data inappropriately, contact us so we can review it.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy when the service or legal requirements change. We will update the date on this page for material changes. Privacy and support enquiries: support@mcr.guide.
